Physical Activity

Physical activity, or exercise is a great way of keeping healthy. There are many health benefits associated with exercise, these include reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease (heart attack), reducing the risk of colon (bowel) cancer, reducing the risk of diabetes and improving mental health.

All these benefits are long term - as young people the reality of heart attack seems a long way off. Exercise does have some immediate health benefits. It improves the flow of blood to the brain - improving concentration and helps us maintain a healthy weight range. Most of all exercise is fun and is a great way for us to meet new friends.

How much is enough

To help improve our health adults must do 30 minutes of exercise on most, preferably every day of the week. If you are aged between 12 and 18, you should do at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day. This exercise may include things like walking or swimming. Exercise - you only have to take it regularly not seriously.
